Nicaragua Itinerary: 2 Weeks Travel Plan

I spent two wonderful weeks exploring Nicaragua from lake cities to surf beaches. This raw and beautiful country surprised me with its easy pace. Here is my route.

Days 1 to 3: Granada

I started in the beautiful colonial city of Granada for three easy days. I wandered cobblestone streets, toured churches, and relaxed by the main square.

I took a short boat trip among the lake islands and watched monkeys swim. Granada was the perfect gentle place to begin my whole two week adventure.

Days 4 to 5: Masaya Volcano

Just outside Granada I drove to the smoking Masaya volcano at night. I watched glowing orange lava glowing inside the massive crater from a lookout.

Days 6 to 8: Ometepe

Days 13 to 14: Return

I traveled back south through the lake region for my final days here. I relaxed, bought a few crafts, and enjoyed the easy pace one last time.

Where to Stay

I mixed colonial guesthouses with beach hostels and island eco lodges. Everywhere offered warm hosts and strong reviews that made booking easy.

I used shuttle vans for the longest intercity transfers on my route. They were comfortable, safe, and shared with other travelers heading the same way.
