I have flown into Bahrain International Airport more times than I can count, and the first thing I always feel stepping out of arrivals is the heat. That warmth does not stay friendly all year. Depending on the month, it can be a gentle haze or a wall of humidity that clamps onto your skin the second you reach the curb. Getting the timing right for Manama is the single biggest factor in whether you love the city or just survive it. Let me walk you through the seasons so you can pick your window.

Manama’s Climate in a Nutshell

Manama sits on an island in the Persian Gulf, and it has a desert climate with two very distinct personalities. From roughly November through March, the city is sunny, dry, and genuinely pleasant, with daytime highs hovering in the low 70s to mid 70s Fahrenheit (about 21 to 24 degrees Celsius) and nights that need a light jacket. From June through September, it becomes one of the hottest places you will ever visit. Daytime highs routinely push past 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) and sometimes climb past 113 degrees (45 degrees Celsius), with humidity that makes even five minutes outside feel heavy.

November to March: The Sweet Spot

This is my absolute favorite stretch, and it is the best time to visit Manama for almost every traveler. In December and January, the city sits at its coolest, with highs around 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius). You can walk the Manama Souq in daylight, eat shawarma from a roadside stall, and still feel comfortable in a t-shirt. I have spent whole January afternoons wandering the Bahrain Fort and the old Muharraq district without breaking a sweat. June to September: Peak Summer

I will be honest with you: the summer in Manama is exhausting. From June through September, the heat is relentless and the humidity can make the air feel thick. This is off-season for a reason. Many daytime sightseeing activities shift indoors, and locals move their lives to the evenings and the air-conditioned malls. Still, this can work if you want a bargain. I have stayed at five-star hotels on the artificial islands off the coast in July for a fraction of the winter rate. If you go in summer, plan your day around early mornings and late nights, and keep a full bottle of water on you at all times, since the air can feel thick even in the shade.

October: The Borderline Month

October is the tricky one. Early October can still reach the high 90s, while late October often slides into the mid 80s and feels wonderful. If your dates are flexible, aim for the second half of October. I once arrived in October expecting cool weather and got a minor heat wave.
